LEBEDEFFIN TALO

Laivanvarustaja ja kauppias Andrei Lebedeff rakennutti puisen empiretyylisen asuinrakennuksen Kirkkokadun varteen 1843.

Rakennukseen tuli yksi sali, kahdeksan kammaria, keittiö, kaksi eteistä rappuineen ja holvikellari. Lebedeffin perheeseen kuului tuolloin vaimon ja palvelusväen lisäksi kuusi omaa lasta, kolme poikaa, kolme tyttöä sekä yksi tytärpuoli.

Rakennus on toiminut asuinrakennuksena melko vähäisin muutoksin tähän päivään asti. 1900-luvun alkupuolella rakennukseen on lisätty kolme lasikuistia, rakennuksen Raatihuoneen puoleinen osa on erotettu liiketiloiksi ja niille on avattu päätyyn oma sisäänkäynti.

Liiketiloissa on toiminut useita yrityksiä, kuten esimerkiksi Kangas- ja pukimoliike P.Wetuschenko Oy sekä Kelloliike Räsänen.

KAUPPAHUONE JA PIHAPIIRI

Andrei Lebedeff omisti kaksi kuunaria  Haminan kauppalaivastosta ja liiketoiminnan vilkastuttua vuonna 1845 hän rakennutti tontilleen, Raatihuonetta vastapäätä, empiretyylisen, puisen kaupparakennuksen. Rakennukseen tuli viisi huonetta: suuri rihkamapuoti ja neljä erillistä kamaria.

1900-luvun alkupuolella rakennukseen lisättiin lasikuisti pihan puolelle ja huonejakoja sekä torin puoleista julkisivua muutettiin tarpeiden mukaan. 1930-luvulla liiketila oli jaettu kolmeen itsenäiseen huoneistoon; torilta oli erilliset sisäänkäynnit hattukauppaan, kemikalioon ja paperikauppaan  takahuoneiden toimiessa välillä myös asuntoina. Rakennus toimii edelleen liiketilana.

Piha oli keskeinen osa kauppakartanon toimintaa. Se toimi varastona, pienenä torina ja kulkuvälineiden säilytyspaikkana sekä osa siitä myös hyötypuutarhana. Pihapiiriin kuului asuinrakennuksen ja kauppahuoneen lisäksi useita hirsisiä aitta- ja varastorakennuksia, joista useat ovat säilyneet muuttuneen ulkoasun alla.

The shipowner and shopkeeper Andrei Lebedeff had a wooden Empire-style residential building constructed beside Kirkkokatu in 1843. The building had a large main room, eight bedrooms, kitchen, two porches, and a vaulted cellar.

The building has served as a residence with few modifications up until this day. In the early 20th century, three glazed porches were added to the building, the end of the house on the side of the Town Hall Square was separated to make shop facilities, and an entrance for them was opened at the end.

The shop facilities have served a number of shops such as Kangas- ja pukimoliike P. Wetuschenko Oy and Kelloliike Räsänen.

Andrei Lebedeff owned two schooners which belonged to the merchant fleet of Hamina. When the business picked up in 1845, he had an Empire-style wooden shop building built on his plot opposite the Town Hall. The building was given five rooms: a large general store and four separate rooms.

In the early years of the 20th century, a glazed porch was added to the yard side of the building, and the room division and the façade facing the Town Hall Square were changed to accommodate the needs of that time. In the 1930s the shop facilities were divided into three independent units; there were separate entrances from the Town Hall Square into a hat shop, a chemist’s and a paper shop, with the back rooms also serving as residences at times. The building is still used for commercial purposes.

The yard had a key role in the activities of the shopkeeper’s house. It served as a storage area, as a small market place and as the storage of means of transport, and part of it was also used as a garden for edible plants. Besides the residential building and shop facilities, there were a number of timber-framed sheds and storage buildings, most of which have been preserved to the present day.
