Talo on rakennettu vuonna 1838 kauppias Shukoffin perheelle. 1850- luvulla tontti siirtyi kultaseppä Johan F. Fincken omistukseen ja vahvat kultasepäntyön perinteet jatkuivat monien vuosikymmenten ajan.

Koivistolta lähteneet kannaksenkarjalaiset kauppiaat Toivo ja Bertta Paukkunen ostivat talon v. 1945 ja muuttivat siihen lastensa Einon, Vienon, Aunen ja Kyllikin kanssa. He pitivät siinä lyhyen ajan kauppaliikettä, mm. kukkakauppaa. Myöhemmin Toivo avasi sekatavarakaupan Haminan vanhaan kauppahalliin.

Talossa asui myös vuokralaisia ja pihan puolella oli leipomo. Myös valokuvaamo Helmi toimi muutaman vuoden talossa. Vuonna 1947 taloa korjattiin ja mm. ikkunat ja ulkovuorilauta vaihdettiin 50-luvun tyylin mukaisiksi.

Erilliset toisissaan kiinni olevat rakennukset rajaavat tonttia ja piha on atriumin muotoinen. Pihalta löytyy erilaisia rakennuksia vuosilta 1853–1899 kuten liiteri, navetta, pesutupa, sauna, huussi ja tiilikattoinen kellari. Bertan aikana pihalla ruusut kukoistivat ja ohikulkijatkin ihastelivat kukkaloistoa.

Talo on edelleen Paukkusen suvun omistuksessa. Vuodesta 2009 sitä on peruskorjattu perinteisiä rakennustapoja hyödyntäen ja museoviraston ohjeita noudattaen vastaamaan tämän päivän vaatimuksia. Katujulkisivut ennallistetaan 1800-lopun asuun ja näin eheytetään melko yhtenäistä, historiallista kaupunkikuvaa keskeisellä paikalla.

The house was originally built for the family of the shopkeeper Shukoff in 1838. In the 1850s, the property was transferred to the ownership of goldsmith Johan F. Fincke, and solid goldsmith traditions continued in the building for decades.

Shopkeepers Toivo and Bertta Paukkunen, who came from Koivisto in Karelia, purchased the house in 1945 and moved in with their children. For a short while, they had a shop, including a florist’s, in the building.

The house also had tenants, and a bakery was located on the side of the courtyard. The photographic studio Helmi served in the building for a few years. The house was repaired in 1947 for example by changing the windows and by installing a cladding in keeping with the style of that age.

Separate buildings touching each other border the plot, forming a yard in the shape of an atrium. The garden area still contains various buildings from 1853-1899, such as a woodshed, barn, laundry room, sauna, latrine and cellar with a tile roof.

The house continues to be owned by the Paukkunen family. Since 2009, it has been renovated by utilising traditional building methods and complying with the instructions of the National Board of Antiquities to meet modern requirements.
